The Detroit Lions are 0-11, and they are easily the worst team in the whole world, and I'm including variations of American football* played in small countries like Liechtenstein; but you cannot compare the current economy to the Lions. The current economy is more like the Oakland Raiders. Bad team, lousy owner.
Speaking of Detroit messes, what's up with the big-three automakers? Remember when American-made cars stood for style and reliability? Yeah, me neither; but it doesn't mean that I can't feel nostalgia for their passing.
Of course, I don't want the Big Three to "pass." I want an American-made car. To further the sports analogy, I've got to support the team. I just hope by the time my Honda dies there are still Americans making American cars. Until then, I'll keep buying New Balance running shoes, hoping Nike doesn't swallow them up and ship them Bangladesh. (By the way, Bangladesh isn't very good at football either.)
*"Football" from here on out will refer to American football, with the helmets and armor and garish clothing. While I would like to accommodate my international readers by always referring to it as "American Football" I think you will agree the phrase sounds clunky when reading it aloud over and over again. Not that you read it aloud, or that you read it at all. Hmph!
